We’ve had problems in our marriage for over 15 years and had tried marriage counseling and weekend marriage retreats. We found Jubilee church (now Redemption church) had a marriage program which last several weekends. The weekly class helped to improve our marriage but we need more help. Ken and Kim were one of the marriage leaders who offered to continue with marriage ministry sessions after the program ended. As my husband and I neared our 2ndyear of marriage, we realized that our challenges were far greater than what we could handle ourselves. We decided to take the Love and Respect course and were encouraged to utilize the marriage ministry sessions. We met with Kim and Ken and began our 6-week journey together. During each session we were given honest talk, constructive feedback, Christ-like correction, and a critical reminder that it was not about us but our relationship with God.
Ken was right, “you have to do the work,” to see a transformation in your marriage. We had homework, which required one on one time with God’s word and the Holy Spirit. Tired, challenged, conflicted, Michael and I wrestled with the word of God and how it should be lived out in our marriage.
It was not an easy journey. We saw areas where we were not yielding to God or each other. It was helpful to hear Kim and Ken share their own experiences, and we appreciated their encouragement as we walked this out.
After 6 weeks, Michael and I are happily celebrating our 2nd year anniversary. We can’t thank God enough for bringing us together with mentors like Kim and Ken. We appreciate the time and energy they invested into our marriage. It wasn’t lost on us that after a full day of life, they met us every other Wednesday to listen and share.
We will do our best to utilize the tools we learned in these sessions. We hope others will take the time to use this impactful resource. We did and it was worth it. God bless you!
